The number I watch before profit

Why cash can tell you something the income statement cannot.

Cash on hand and the next few weeks of commitments reveal timing that monthly profit can hide. Start with the actual bank balance, then review expected collections and payments. A forecast is useful when it shows both the expected cash low point and the assumptions behind it.

Put it to work

Bring cash, receivables, payment commitments and the near-term forecast into the same conversation. Ask what changed since last week and who owns the follow-up.
